The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays a vital role in supporting virtual-first, multidisciplinary care for patients with serious mental illness and substance use disorders. This position is responsible for initiating virtual appointments, collecting and documenting healthcare information, and assisting with medication reconciliation and symptom assessments. The CMA actively participates in daily interdisciplinary huddles, contributes to treatment planning, and helps coordinate care by facilitating communication between patients, families, and healthcare providers. Additional responsibilities include supporting staff with vital sign collection, managing medical records, handling patient inquiries, and ensuring smooth workflows within the care team. This position is currently a 3- 5 month long contract

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties of the position
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a medical setting or one year experience in a behavioral health setting, or a comparable job classification.
  • Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical patients, family, caregivers, and staff.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to understand medical/behavioral health/mental health terminology.
  • Ability to write clear notes in a patient’s chart and assist with constructing patient-centered care plans.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and working in a new, fast-paced environment.
  • Graduate and completion of an approved Medical Assistant Program.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working in behavioral health and/or with an elderly population is preferred.
  • Prior experience working at a startup is a plus.
  • Bilingual (Spanish-English or Haitian-Creole) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Initiate virtual appointments with patients to collect health care information prior to the visit with MDs, Nurse Practitioners, and Licensed Clinical Social Workers. Health care information includes content such as personal and family history of behavioral health conditions, medication reconciliation, person-reported symptom rating scales, and similar items.
  • Help to coordinate treatment with the patient, family, and the multidisciplinary care team, including contacting other health care providers, generating, and sharing medical records with appropriate consent, and similar tasks.
  • Support staff to complete tasks such as vital sign collection, consent collection, recording, and scheduling of future appointments.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary care team composed of psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, social workers, and Facilitated telehealth coordinators to provide high quality, virtual-first, coordinated care to patients with serious mental illness and substance use disorders.
  • Ensure smooth patient and workflow within the department and assist the patient care team in implementing the medical plan of care.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of data and instructions, furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Process incoming and outgoing calls in an independent and professional manner using sound clinical judgment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or as they arise.
