About The Position

The Clinical Care Assistant aids in the examination and treatment of patients, under the direction of a physician or nurse in Medical Centers. This is an entry level minimal experience medical assisting position with opportunity to obtain on the job training and progress into a higher-level role once certifications are attained. The position will require some nights and weekends.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a medical assistant training program.
  • Medical Assistant Diploma from a College/University/Technical School or be enrolled in Sanitas MA Apprenticeship Program or a healthcare field diploma (Certified Nurse Assistant, Patient Technician) with 1+ year’s experience in lieu of MA diploma.
  • One (1) year of Medical Assistant, CNA, patient technicians, or Home Health Aid experience.
  • BLS certification
  • Medical Assistant certification
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Proficient in medical terminology.
  • Any combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described including related work experience.
  • The position will require some nights and weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in electronic medical records systems (eCW preferred), Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Previous experience working in a medical office setting.
  • Phlebotomy certification.
  • Experience in Pediatric care and be knowledgeable of pediatric terminology and preferred experience in administering care to pediatric patients.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily patient flow in areas as needed.
  • Gives direct patient care and performs indirect patient care activities and laboratory tests, under the direction of a physician or nurse.
  • Interview patients, measure vital signs and record information on patient charts.
  • Greet and escort patients to the examination room.
  • Adhere to HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Assist providers in assessing a comprehensive and accurate picture of the patient's health, facilitating informed decision-making and high-quality patient care.
  • Performs supervised procedures such as, but not limited to, EKG, vaccines and medications via IM/SC/ID/Oral and assists in procedures/treatments as requested by physician.
  • Performs supervised lab work once the skill has been signed off by a nurse or physician as per physician orders and prepares instrumental equipment for sterilization.
  • Perform basic laboratory tests and procedures, such as phlebotomy and venipuncture procedures for specimen collection.
  • Adheres to Nursing Department policies and procedures.
  • Process and handle tubes and specimens according to laboratory protocols.
  • Checks equipment and supplies prior to use for function, inspection, and expiration date.
  • Maintains quality control (i.e. Glucometer, eyewash, and refrigerator temperature) and cleaning logs as needed for the department.
  • Reports malfunction of medical equipment and safety issues to supervisor.
  • Complies with Infection Control and OSHA Regulations (handling and disposal of biomedical waste) for the center as per regulations.
  • Helps direct patients to the appropriate departments for continuum of care.
  • Helps patients understand the various services available to optimize the patient's care and experience at Sanitas.
  • Complete Pre-visit planning prior to patient's visit, within 72 hours.
  • Ensure a complete review of all pertinent records, including labs, DI, and referrals prior to patient's visit.
  • Perform a complete in-take of a patient's visit in preparation for the appointment.
  • Referrals - Ensure complete and timely processing of patient referrals and follow up to resolve any outstanding referral requests.
  • Talk to the patient and recommend the MySanitas app to view their referral options.
  • Telephone encounters - Ensure timely review and resolution of all assigned telephone encounters within the timeframe specified in the TE policy, including follow-up with patient as needed.
  • Handle and process various types of specimens including blood, urine, and other bodily fluids with attention to proper collection, labeling, storage, and transportation techniques.
  • Maintain Quality Controls by performing QC tests and maintaining QC records.
  • Possible job function if in Tennessee or New Jersey - Pediatric care: administer care to pediatric patients, (example - properly administering pediatric vaccines.)
