The CMA assumes responsibility and accountability for the quality of care delivered during work hours; works to ensure a safe environment for themselves, the patient and other staff members.

Requirements

  • Must possess a current and valid CMA certificate
  • Works in accordance with local practice acts and regulations, and functions to other competent nursing personnel appropriate to their scope of practice
  • CPR certified.

  • Experience in Correctional or behavioral desired but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage inventory and order medical supplies as needed.
  • Answer phone calls and coordinate communication between patients and medical staff.
  • Schedule or coordinate patient appointments and maintain calendar for medical providers.
  • Ensure accurate medical records are maintained, updating patient information as necessary.
  • Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records and keeping patient information confidential.
  • Sterilize medical instruments and maintain equipment.
  • Assist the provider or nurse with physical exams and various medical procedures by setting up the exam room, recording the patient's health history, and obtaining vital signs.
  • Administer injections and vaccinations as per provider orders, as directed by the registered nurse or provider and as permitted by state law.
  • Perform EKGs, blood draws, and other diagnostic tests as directed.
  • Assist during medical examinations and procedures.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
  • Adhere to professional standards; facility policies and procedures; and federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
