About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician. Requirements

  • Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as, the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists, The National Association of Healthcare Professions, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association.
  • AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years if individual is not a graduate of a medical assistant program, OR no work experience if individual is a graduate of a medical assistant program.
  • Previous experience using a personal computer and various software applications, including Microsoft, e-mail, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing strong organizational, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) to three (3) years of previous experience as a Certified Medical Assistant.
  • Previous experience in an academic health care environment.
  • Graduation from a Medical Assisting training program from an accredited program of study such as the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician.
  • Function under the direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager, and/or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving, all in accordance with hospital, nursing, and unit policy/procedure.
  • Handle, transport, access, and/or contact medications and related supplies.
