About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant will utilize their expertise to make a significant impact in both clinical and administrative roles. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited medical assisting program.
  • One (1+) year of experience in the healthcare field.
  • Active Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification – Accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively and compassionately with patients, families, and healthcare staff.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, maintain accurate records, and work well in a fast-paced environment.
  • High attention to detail when performing both clinical and administrative tasks to ensure patient safety and accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, take direction from supervisors, and cooperate with colleagues to ensure high-quality care.
  • Consistently demonstrate professionalism in appearance and behavior.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Preparation and Assistance
  • Support healthcare providers during patient exams
  • Perform blood draws (venipunctures or capillary punctures), administer injections and vaccines, and assist with minor procedures as ordered by the LIP.
  • Administer oral, topical, sublingual, or injectable medications per LIP’s orders and within the medical assistant scope of practice.
  • Clean, dress, and bandage superficial wounds and assist in routine clinical tasks like CLIA-waived tests.
  • Conduct regular quality control tests to ensure the accuracy of lab results and proper lab equipment functioning.
  • Follow proper procedures for labeling, handling, and transporting specimens to ensure accuracy and avoid contamination.
  • Maintain aseptic techniques during clinical procedures to prevent infections.
  • Sterilize medical instruments using autoclaves or other sterilization methods and disinfect exam rooms and equipment after each patient encounter.
  • Use appropriate PPE (gloves, masks, gowns) to minimize the risk of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).
  • Ensure that biohazardous waste is disposed of according to protocol.
  • Provide basic first aid and assist with medical emergencies as per Basic Life Support (BLS) standards.
  • Demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity when delivering patient care.
  • Provide age-appropriate care and understanding for patients from newborns to elderly individuals.
  • Utilize age-specific techniques (e.g., distraction, comfort positions) to reduce discomfort and anxiety during procedures, particularly with pediatric patients.
  • Measure and record vital signs, growth parameters, and assist pediatricians during exams and routine procedures.
  • Administer vaccines per pediatric immunization schedules and assist with specimen collection for lab testing.
  • Ensure readiness of emergency equipment in pediatric settings and respond to medical emergencies involving children.
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date patient records by entering data, filing documents, and managing electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Safeguard patient confidentiality and maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Manage general office tasks, including answering phones, organizing medical supplies, and maintaining inventory.
  • Assist with billing, coding, and insurance claims processing as guided by experienced staff.
  • Perform pre-visit planning to gather relevant patient information for upcoming appointments.
  • Provide timely responses to telephone encounters and patient inquiries.
  • Complete documentation for urgent care follow-ups, communicable disease reporting, and hospital transfers.
  • Facilitate patient coordination for pre-op clearance, medication authorizations, and referrals.
  • Schedule patient appointments, confirm and verify patient details, and assist with urgent care patient follow-up calls.
  • Prepare informed consent documents and coordinate the transmission of lab specimens (e.g., Cologuard, blood tests).
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or organizational leaders.
