About The Position

Our Medical Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of duties in our Urology offices. This position is based in Fayetteville but may need to travel to Syracuse offices upon business need. What You’ll Be Doing Greets and assists patient in placing personal belongings in the appropriate place in the exam room. Ensures any medications brought to the visit by the patient are placed into patient’s chart. Verifies patient’s history prior to seeing the physician. Obtains patient’s vital signs including weight, blood pressure, respiration and pulse and ensures they are recorded in the EMR. Assists the physician with office procedures that do not require administration of medications. Collaborates with AMP RN’s and LPN’s to provide high quality patient care. Performs blood draws as needed. Performs bladder scans and uroflow tests. Prepares the patient for their appointment. Female patients should be asked to undress from the waist down depending on the medical issue. Male patients should be asked to remove shoes, socks and shirt and no gown is used. Ensures the patient’s room number has been recorded on the encounter ticket and the ticket is placed in either the door or chart holder. Ensures examination rooms are cleaned and supplies are stocked. Exam room cleaning includes disposing of table paper and gowns, cleaning contaminated surface areas such as door handles, blood pressure cuffs, chairs and pulls bars as time allows. Maintains working knowledge of OSHA compliance standards and applies these policies and procedures to daily responsibilities. Responsible for completing, in a timely manner, all AMP training and in-services, including but not limited to annual OSHA training and PPD placements. Maintains a high level of patient confidentiality. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)
  • Medical assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or a community college course in medical assisting.
  • Appropriate certificate indicating passing grade for specific specialty if working in specialty department; e.g., pediatric medical assistant exam.
  • Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office.
  • Electrocardiogram (EKG), vital signs, venipuncture, capillary, and injection current experience.
  • Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have thorough knowledge in computer information systems.
