Under the direction of the health care provider, the Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for the delivery of patient care that promotes the safety and well being of all patients. This includes accurately performing preliminary physical tests such as measuring blood pressure, recording weight, temperature, pulse, and respiration, and other measures as directed by established clinical protocols. The role involves general patient care, preparing patients for providers, obtaining and recording vital signs, administering medications and/or vaccines, collecting blood samples, performing routine tests like EKGs, scheduling diagnostic testing, documenting patient care plans and results, communicating with patients, preparing and sterilizing instruments, maintaining equipment, stocking exam rooms, escalating non-routine issues, ensuring safety checklists are completed, and protecting patient privacy rights. The CMA may also work in the front office and perform other assigned duties.
