The Certified Medical Assistant / Registered Medical Assistant provides essential clinical and administrative support within the pediatric practice, ensuring efficient patient flow and high‑quality care. This role supports physicians and nursing staff during examinations and treatments, facilitates clear communication with families, and upholds the smooth, organized operation of the office to enhance the overall patient and family experience.

Requirements

  • Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT) – National Center for Competency Testing
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – National Healthcareer Association
  • Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) – National Association for Health Professionals
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (required within 30 days)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Allied Health (AAH)
  • High School Diploma or GED

Responsibilities

  • Rooming patients: collect chief complaint, family, social, surgical history, and complete medication reconciliation
  • Conduct telephone interactions with patients, families, pharmacies, and healthcare facilities per department protocols
  • Gather and maintain patient information via telephone following department policies
  • Perform administrative tasks: check‑in/check‑out, prior authorizations, scheduling, benefits verification, referrals, and testing coordination
  • Assist with office procedures per department competencies
  • Perform procedures such as catheterizations, bladder scans, suture/staple removal, cast application/removal, and point‑of‑care diagnostic testing
  • Read negative TB skin tests or direct patients to nursing staff when results appear positive
  • Provide written instructions for procedures, medications, and follow‑up per provider direction
  • Retrieve and provide condition‑specific education from approved sources per provider orders
  • Administer medications per provider order
  • Assist with prescription refills per department protocols
  • Call medications into pharmacies, notify patients of refills, and document in the EMR
  • Maintain competencies for point‑of‑care testing, equipment handling, and specialty skills
  • Administer immunizations, PPD tests, nebulizer treatments, and oral medications for patients age 0–21
  • Obtain vital signs (weight, height, BP, pulse ox, pulse) for patients age 0–21
  • Assist with in‑office procedures such as toenail removal, lesion removal, and circumcision
  • Complete in‑office medication reconciliation for all prescription and OTC medications
  • Assist with physical form completion
