About The Position

The position at Orlando Health Physician Associates involves providing patient care under the supervision of a physician or advanced practice provider in an ambulatory setting. Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school or verifiable applicable work experience in a patient care setting required.
  • Maintains current American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Certification.
  • Maintains current certification by one of the following agencies: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
  • Minimum three (3) years as Certified Medical Assistant.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues.
  • Embraces and participates in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process improvement activities.
  • Supports and demonstrates effective and professional communication with patients and family members.
  • Works collaboratively with the administrative and operations staff.
  • Gathers patient data through interview and observation.
  • Assists patients and families with preparation for examination.
  • Assists the physician or APP during examination and procedures.
  • Demonstrates competency in specific tasks and skills as defined by the practice.
  • Provides routine treatments and administers approved medication types as ordered by the provider.
  • Enters medication, laboratory and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under direction of a provider.
  • Documents patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department specific policies.
  • Acts as a liaison on behalf of the patient to schedule and provide information for specialty testing and consultations.
  • Processes incoming and outgoing calls in an independent and professional manner using sound clinical judgment.
  • Helps develop and coordinate the orientation process in the assigned practice for Medical Assistants.
  • Acts as preceptor and/or oversees assigned preceptor(s) in collaboration with nursing/clinical leadership and corporate Learning Consultant.
  • Supports and helps develop quality strategies within the practice.
  • Facilitates and participates in the skills portion of the Annual Clinical Review for Medical Assistants.
  • Collaborates with clinical leadership and education to assess ongoing competence of Medical Assistants.
  • Leads and participates in departmental committees and special projects.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
