About The Position

Psychiatric Certified Medical Assistant (PCMA) plays a key role in supporting psychiatric providers and ensuring the efficient operation of the Psychiatric Clinic. This position is responsible for rooming patients and preparing them for appointments with the psychiatric practitioners. The Psychiatric Certified Medical Assistant performs various back-office clinical tasks, including obtaining baseline clinical data (e.g., vital signs), maintaining accurate clinical records, and managing the provider’s caseload. Working under the direct supervision of the Behavioral Health Coordinator and the general supervision of a psychiatric provider, the PCMA collaborates closely with the care team to support the delivery of team-based, patient-centered care in alignment with best practices and NATIVE HEALTH (NH) policies. This role is essential in fostering a therapeutic and efficient clinical environment.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) through the National Healthcare Association is preferred or comparable certification from an accredited organization.
  • Two years of experience as an MA in a family practice outpatient setting, including experience with child and adult patients.
  • Evidence of current medication administration knowledge and skills.
  • Comprehension of HIPAA regulations, compliance and violation reporting.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the medical clinic purpose and operations.
  • Ability to prioritize duties, perform them efficiently and adjust to and accept unexpected events.
  • Knowledge of privacy and confidentiality policies and regulations.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Medication administration knowledge and skills.
  • Knowledge of Infection Control and prevention processes.
  • Knowledge of computer-based applications, such as Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Ability to work efficiently and comfortably with other medical clinic employees.
  • Ability to use electronic health records, NextGen.
  • Ability to be punctual and dependable.
  • Ability to utilize supplies and equipment in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Willingness to learn new tasks consistent with MA training.
  • Skills in the use of medical instruments and supplies.
  • Knowledge of the cultural and social background of the Native American and Alaska Native (AI/AN) and other minority populations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and promote excellent customer service to visitors, patients, clients, and staff in person and on the phone.
  • Screens patients, documents findings in the electronic medical record system, and alerts the practitioner to special care needs.
  • Assists the practitioner and other professional staff in the delivery of patient care; reinforces discharge instructions and deliverables.
  • Administers medications under the direction of healthcare professionals; documents the same in the medical information system.
  • Supports NATIVE HEALTH as needed.
