About The Position

This role is generally responsible for providing administrative and clinical support in a vascular medical office. The Medical Assistant will collaborate with clinical leadership in the performance of the clinical and patient care aspects of his/her duties and will always act within scope of practice under the authority of attending surgeon and nursing staff. This is a per diem position with hours scheduled on an as-needed basis. At present, coverage is needed every Monday, with the possibility of additional shifts in the future. This role will report to the Office Manager for operational matters and to clinical leadership for clinical matters.

Requirements

  • Completion of Medical Assistant Program and certification as a Medical Assistant
  • BLS certification
  • Proficiency in administrative tasks
  • 1+ year experience in a medical setting, ideally surgical
  • Willing to be available for local and/or regional assignments as needed
  • Basic understanding of clinical tasks
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and exceptional attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Assist as needed with patient care, including providing compassionate patient support and care, attention and assistance during office visits
  • Set-up room for patient procedures and ensure sterile environment
  • Follow accreditation guidelines and document as needed
  • Record patients’ vital signs and maintain provider’s notes
  • Ensure patient medical records are comprehensive and complete
  • Assist provider during office visits and procedures
  • Assist as needed with daily operations of the clinic and office-based lab
  • Assist with scheduling patient appointments and maintaining communication to confirm future appointments
  • Maintain patient medical information, including medical history and health insurance
  • Maintain orders and stocks supplies
  • Manage office telephone, including answering calls and providing 24-hour call backs to patients as needed
  • Clean and sterilize equipment
  • Properly dispose of medical waste in accordance with facility guidelines
  • Prepare exam rooms and assist physicians and other clinical staff as needed
  • Provide coverage until practice is closed for the day or last patient has left if after closing hours
  • Maintain HIPAA guidelines
  • Maintain compliance databases
  • Complete ad hoc projects as requested
