About The Position

UPMC is currently hiring for a full-time Certified Medical Assistant to join our outpatient Pediatrics office on Pine Street in Williamsport. This position works primarily Monday-Friday, with Saturday mornings (8:00am - 12:00pm) covered on rotation. A typical Monday through Friday work week consists of 4 day shifts (as scheduled between 7:00am - 5:00pm) and 1 evening shift (10:30am-7pm). The purpose of this role is to assist physicians with various aspects of patient care (including clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks) ensuring patient satisfaction. In addition to core Medical Assistant responsibilities, the individual will serve as the lead person for the team regarding day-to-day workflow issues or office procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant certification from a national certifying organization (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA), or successful completion of Medical Assistant program, or graduated from an LPN, RN, or EMT/Paramedics program (must have received & maintained certification if EMT).
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic, and treatment room responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Attends routine meeting with staff to communicate procedural changes to improve service quality and patient safety.
  • Participates in implementation of department goals, processes and procedures. Assists with orientation of new staff members.
  • Relay instructions and education to patients per provider's instruction.
  • Document patient information into the medical record and adhere to all confidentiality requirements and policies.
  • Works directly with the manager to identify opportunities for improvement in regards to clinical/nonclinical functions, infection control procedures.
  • Serves as an office super user of EPIC Care as assigned.
  • Must attend competency training and be responsible and demonstrate proficiency in all practice category specific tasks from training.
  • Send and receive patient medical records in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.
  • Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information. Complete forms/requisitions as needed. Schedule appointments. Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
  • Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol, room patients and prepare for examination.
