About The Position

MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) that provides healthcare to patients within the rural health network throughout the state of South Carolina. The Medical Assistant performs assigned patient care activities and related administrative duties under direct supervision of Providers and Office Manager. Specific patient care responsibilities will be assigned after competency is established.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• 6 months of experience in a patient care setting.
• A bachelor’s degree in a science or health-related field can be substituted for the required experience.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
• Completion of an accredited medical assisting program with one year of patient care experience preferred.
• Must be certified through the American Medical Technologist (AMT) or American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or National Health Career Association (NHA) or MedCA as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP).

Responsibilities

• Interviews patients, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records or inputs information to patients' medical record.
• Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
• Maintains annual competencies.
• Understands and implements a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of patient care procedures.
• Makes accurate physical observations of patients.
• Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing.
