About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant 3 works in large or complex practices. This role assists in delivering health care to patients. It performs advanced patient care activities beyond the CMA 2 role. It also helps with daily clinical operations and project-based work. This position handles complex tasks and escalations. It also involves mentoring, training, and assessing staff. For internal promotions, partner with HR and the Director for approval.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 3 years of experience as a medical assistant.
  • Medical assistant certification from a program accredited by the American Association of Medical Assistants or the American Medical Technologists.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, charts, and records.
  • Understanding of safety principles and accurate medical administration.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations.
  • Ability to give injections and draw blood.
  • Excellent bedside manner and ability to make patients feel at ease.
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to fairly assess, mentor, and train others.

Responsibilities

  • Functions as the team lead for the MA/CMA team.
  • Maintains clinical staff schedule.
  • Assigns and monitors extra job duties given to MA staff (e.g., Autoclave, stocking exam rooms etc.).
  • Develops and implements training protocol for new MA/CMA staff.
  • Manages clinical flow and ensures adequate coverage for providers.
  • Covers positions when short-staffed, if necessary.
  • Makes sure each clinical staff member takes time for lunch.
  • Ensures adequate coverage for breaks.
  • Communicates workflow changes and is accountable for training MA staff.
  • Works with providers and managers to hold team members accountable to standard key workflows.
  • Provides input for evaluations and recommends counseling when appropriate.
  • Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations.
  • Cleans rooms after procedures, disinfects equipment, and restocks supplies.
  • Assists with inventory to ensure necessary supplies, equipment, and instruments are available.
  • Records as necessary.
  • Assists and accompanies patients from the waiting room and prepares them for examination.
  • Interviews patients and records information into their medical records.
  • Collects medical data, including vital signs, to help the physician understand the patient's needs.
  • Ensures all charts and forms for the office visit are ready for the provider.
  • Performs routine patient testing, including medications, injections, and vaccinations.
  • Acquires and processes electrocardiograms.
  • Collects and processes blood and urine samples.
  • Identifies and reports adverse reactions.
  • Removes sutures and staples.
  • Changes sterile and non-sterile dressings, as requested.
  • Performs administrative duties like answering phones, taking messages, scheduling appointments, and managing in-basket tasks.
  • Runs huddles as needed.
