About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for providing general direct and indirect patient care in a clinical setting under the direct supervision of a physician. This role collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure the functionality of practice operations to provide excellent patient care. The position ensures that medical facilities run smoothly and works in a clerical, administrative, or clinical capacity, and may even be asked to perform more specialized tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Handles patient intake, updates medical records, and administers appropriate screening tools.
  • Records medical information and test results, conducts patient interviews, takes and records vital signs, collects specimens, and administers medication under physician supervision.
  • Assists with walk-in and scheduled clinic visits, ensures verification and recording of clinical data and adherence to quality standards.
  • Guides patients through the health care system and helps patients arrive at scheduled appointments on time.
  • Takes vital signs before a patient sees a doctor to establish a baseline for future exams.
  • Assists with examinations by working closely with physicians to perform clinical tasks.
  • Collects and prepares laboratory samples, instructing patients on how to collect samples or drawing blood.
  • Greets patients and welcomes them to the facility.
  • Schedules appointments and organizes them for patients.
  • Maintains medical records by recording patient medical histories and vital signs in the computer system.
  • Cleans patient rooms by sanitizing and reorganizing them between visits.
  • Preps examination rooms by ensuring they are ready for the patient, including disinfecting equipment and stocking supplies.
  • Provides emotional support related to the patient's clinical situation in accordance with the patient's plan of care.
  • Assists with referrals of patients to the appropriate specialist for diagnosis or treatment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
