About The Position

UnityPoint Clinics is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) for the Huxley Family Med location. This full-time position offers a competitive benefits package and a sign-on bonus of $5,000 for external candidates. The working hours are Monday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Tuesday through Thursday from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, and Friday from 7:15 AM to 5:00 PM. The role involves assisting with clinical tasks across multiple departments and performing lab-related duties, particularly in Point of Care Testing (POCT).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) through NCCT, AAMA, NHA or AMT.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Mandatory Reporter training.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and other healthcare technology.

Responsibilities

  • Assist healthcare providers with patient care tasks including rooming patients, taking vital signs, and updating medical histories.
  • Perform point-of-care testing (POCT) including glucose, rapid strep, urinalysis, hemoglobin A1C, and other tests as required.
  • Administer injections, vaccines, and medications as directed by the healthcare provider.
  • Prepare and maintain exam rooms, ensuring cleanliness and proper inventory of medical supplies.
  • Collect and process laboratory specimens, ensuring proper labeling, documentation, and timely processing.
  • Accurately record patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Float between providers as needed to cover for absences or increased patient demand.
  • Provide patient education on various topics such as medication administration, healthy living practices, and post-visit care instructions.
  • Maintain compliance with clinic policies, procedures, and infection control standards.
  • Ensure proper documentation of lab tests, and report critical results to healthcare providers promptly.
