The GYN/OB Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) in the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary team. The CMA has duties and responsibilities related to patient care in the ambulatory clinic environment. The Certified Medical Assistant duties include: obtaining vital signs, assisting patients in preparation for examination/procedure, recording and documenting in the medical record, ensuring safe & efficient patient flow, administering medications and immunizations, and organizing the clinic environment to assure patient safety.

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program preferred
  • One year of experience preferred
  • Successful completion of the CMA, AAMA, RMA, NCMA, NRCMA or NHA (CCMA) certification at the time of hire
  • Must maintain certification/registration throughout employment
  • Valid BLS/CPR certification required upon hire and recertification required every two years
  • Familiar with medical terminology and documenting in electronic health record
  • Demonstrate competency in all skills related to the performance of patient care
