About The Position

The Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA) performs routine clinical and administrative duties in support of the assigned area or office at Frye Regional Medical Center. This role involves assisting in the assessment of patient needs and health plans by taking vital signs, history, medication listing, assessing visual acuity, and determining the chief complaint. The CMA is responsible for completing all necessary documentation in the patient’s medical record in accordance with practice’s charting policy, preparing equipment, and assisting physicians with medical treatments, exams, and procedures. Additionally, the CMA administers prescribed oral medications, gives injections, performs venipunctures, and conducts lab testing. Maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients and visitors is also a key responsibility, along with managing inventory of medical supplies and assisting with patient scheduling and referrals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required for CMA.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting Program required.
  • Current credentialing (certification/registration) with AAMA-CMA, NRCMA, NHA, NCCT or AMT-RMA.
  • Basic Life Support certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the assessment of patient needs and health plan by taking vital signs, history, medication listing, assessing visual acuity and determining chief complaint.
  • Completes all necessary documentation in the patient’s medical record in accordance with practice’s charting policy.
  • Prepares equipment and assists physicians with medical treatments, exams and medical procedures.
  • Administers prescribed oral medications and gives intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections.
  • Performs venipunctures, CLIA-Waived and non-CLIA Waived lab testing.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly and safe environment for patients and visitors.
  • Stocks rooms in preparation for the daily work schedule and takes inventory of medical and exam room supplies.
  • Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Arranges for specialized consultations and appointments for testing as ordered by the physicians.
  • Notifies appropriate insurance personnel to pre-certify surgeries or tests ordered by the physician.
  • Answers office phones, assists front desk in scheduling appointments and directing calls appropriately.
  • Assists in checking out patients and assists them with referral processing and scheduling process.
  • Assists in other functions of the physician practice as needed.
