About The Position

The Medical Assistant I (MA I) provides clinical care and performs clerical duties to support office/clinic functions under the direction of a licensed clinician. This position may have a signing bonus available, and the working hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The role involves escorting patients, taking vital signs, performing EKGs, phlebotomy, and assisting in clinical procedures. The MA I will also maintain medical records, process prescriptions, and collaborate with insurers for patient coverage. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Heart Saver (HS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Medical Assistant credential approved by the Massachusetts Department of Health must be obtained within 1 year from date of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Escorts patients to examination rooms and records vital signs.
  • Collects and documents patient health status and history.
  • Performs EKGs, phlebotomy, and Point of Care tests.
  • Prepares, documents, and administers non-intravenous injections as required.
  • Assists in routine physical examinations and clinical procedures.
  • Reviews laboratory results and communicates abnormal results to physicians.
  • Sets up and prepares rooms based on patient care requirements.
  • Cleans, sterilizes, and repackages instruments and scopes.
  • Assists in moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients.
  • Follows procedures for patient arrivals and scheduling appointments.
  • Assists with patient admissions, transfers, and discharge procedures.
  • Maintains office and clinical supplies and initiates requisitions.
  • Maintains logs and organizes patient care charts.
  • Processes prescriptions and refills as directed.
  • Performs clerical duties such as typing, filing, and scheduling appointments.
  • Collaborates with insurers to verify coverage and obtain pre-authorizations.
  • Collects co-payments from patients and maintains records.
