About The Position

MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) that provides healthcare to patients within the rural health network throughout the state of South Carolina. The Certified Medical Assistant performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited medical assisting program with one year of patient care experience preferred.
  • Certification through AMT, AAMA, NHA, or MedCA as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA or American Red Cross.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews patients and measures vital signs (pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height).
  • Records or inputs information to patients' medical records.
  • Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
  • Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Maintains annual competencies and understands a variety of detailed instructions in executing therapeutic procedures.
