Relocation Assistance (based on eligibility) Occ SummaryThe Medical Assistant, Certified functions as anintegral member of theinterdisciplinary healthcare team in providing d irect patient care. TheMedical Assistant, Certified performs routine adm inistrative and patientcare supportive duties in a Health System medical practice that assistmedical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment ofpatients and ensure the clinic/office runs smoothly.Work PerformedClinical responsibilities:The CMA takes medi cal histories and records vital signs, explainstreatment procedures to p atients, and prepares patients for examinationsand procedures.Patient ca resupport responsibilities may include assisting the medicaland nursing staff during examination and procedures, collecting andpreparing laborat ory specimens, performing basic laboratory test in theclinic/office, tak ing electrocardiograms, removing sutures/ staples,changing sterile and n on-sterile dressings, promoting patient/familyunderstanding of the educa tional content and his/her involvement in theplan of care, and documenti ng in the patient record.Other clinical support responsibilities include disposing ofcontaminated supplies, instrument processing, high level dis infectionand sterilization of medical instruments, telephoning prescript ions to apharmacy, preparing and administering medications as directed b y aphysician, and authorizing drug refills as directed. Performs othercl inical functions as delegated and supervised by the physician.Administrative responsibilities:The CMA greets patients, answers telephones, sched ules appointments toinclude arrive appointments in MaestroCare, checkout patients, andreferral scheduling; arranges for hospital admissions andla boratoryservices, updates and filespatient medical records, fills outin suranceforms, handles billing, bookkeeping to include receiving copays a ndcollections on account balances; correspondence, and ordering clinical and clerical supplies and forms. Performs other administrative dutiesasd irected.May be requested to be a liaison for clinic activities suchas Jo intCommission and falls and/or participate in clinic committees.

Requirements

  • Good customer service skills .
  • Work requires the ability to understand and follow oral and writteninst ructions generally acquired through a high school education andmedical a ssistant programming.
  • Heavy lifting and theability to transport stretcher and wheelchairpatients may be required.
  • Working knowledge of sterile tec hniques and special procedures that areapplicable to work performed.
  • Work ing knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administeringrout ine and special treatments to patients.
  • Working knowledge of sanitation, personal hygiene and basic health andsafety precautions applicablefor wo rk in a clinic setting.
  • Workingknowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions.

  • Level I -- Graduatio n from accredited Medical Assistant program stronglypreferred. High scho ol or GED graduation required.
  • Level II-- Graduation from a medical assi stant program accredited bythe Commission on Accreditation of Allied Hea lth Education Programs(CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Educa tion Schools (ABHES)strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation re quired.
  • Level III -- Graduation from a medical assistant program accredit ed bythe Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)st rongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required.
  • Level IV -- Gra duation from a medical assistant program accredited bythe Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs(CAAHEP) or the Accredi ting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)strongly preferred. High schoolor GED graduation required.
  • Level I -- No experience required.
  • Level II -- 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant,Certified in a clinical setting.
  • Level III -- 2 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant,Certified in a clinical s etting.
  • Level IV -- 3 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant ,Certified in a clinical setting.
  • Note: 1 year of experience will be prov ided for an Associate degree inMedical Assisting.
  • Level I -- Certification by AAMA, AMT, NH A-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required.BLS required.
  • Level II -- Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required.BLS required.
