The Wound Care Clinic at Duke Regional Hospital is a hospital-based specialty clinic that provides comprehensive wound care to patients with chronic and hard-to-heal wounds. Our specialists provide comprehensive wound management for pressure injuries, open skin wounds caused by injury or surgery, venous ulcers, non-healing surgical wounds, neuropathic foot wounds, and concerns related to broken or weeping skin.

Requirements

  • Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program strongly preferred.
  • High school or GED graduation required.
  • Level II: At least 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.
  • Level III: At least 3 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.
  • Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required.
  • BLS required.

  • Good customer service skills.
  • Working knowledge of sterile techniques and special procedures.
  • Working knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering routine and special treatments to patients.
  • Typing skills and medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the flow of the clinic schedule.
  • Take medical histories and record vital signs.
  • Greet patients and answer telephones.
  • Assist with medical forms and procedures for patients.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist during examinations and procedures.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens.
  • Perform basic laboratory tests in the clinic/office.
  • Remove sutures/staples and change sterile and non-sterile dressings.
  • Promote patient/family understanding of educational content and involvement in the plan of care.
  • Document in the patient record.
  • Familiarize with bedside cleaning of medical instruments prior to high-level disinfection.
  • Telephone prescriptions to a pharmacy and prepare/administer medications as directed by a physician.
  • Authorize drug refills as directed.
  • Perform other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by the physician.
  • Perform other administrative duties as delegated.
