About The Position

CAN Community Health is hiring a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Traveler. This role is for individuals passionate about patient care and dedicated to serving the needs of individuals impacted by HIV, Hepatitis C, STIs, and other infectious diseases. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA) is required or ability to achieve certification within 6 months of hire.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and have valid insurance and driver's license.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50%, including possible overnight travel.
  • Must be able to pass a Level I and Level II Background check as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • 1+ years of experience in a clinical setting.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-person and virtual coverage for clinics across CAN.
  • Perform medical intake procedures including vital signs and history.
  • Perform complete patient evaluation and assessment.
  • Record and report on symptoms, reactions, treatments and changes in patient’s conditions.
  • Perform immunizations as directed by the physician.
  • Practice safe phlebotomy skills using standard precautions.
  • Document all patient care in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Complete all medical prior authorization and documentation requirements.
  • Maintain temperature logs for all clinic refrigerators containing specimens and medications.
  • Greet and assist patients with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Accurately collect, process and post patient payments, including co-pays, deductibles and outstanding balance.
  • Verify and update patient insurance information and eligibility during check-in.
  • Schedule and confirm patient appointments, managing any necessary follow-up for missing documentation.
  • Assist with other front desk duties including answering phones and managing patient paperwork.
  • Accurately learn EMR system, must pass audits and SME testing with 95% accuracy.
  • Ensure all patient insurance has been verified.
  • Run and reconcile end of day reports against daily collections and POS reporting.
  • Perform venipuncture and fingerstick on all patients as ordered.
  • Identify patients using two unique identifiers and verify test orders prior to specimen collection.
  • Prepare collection sites using aseptic technique and select appropriate collection equipment.
  • Label specimens accurately at the point of collection.
  • Process, centrifuge, and prepare specimens for transport or analysis according to laboratory protocols.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions and provide appropriate first aid or escalate as needed.
  • Maintain infection control and safety standards during all procedures.
  • Collect and process non-blood specimens (e.g., urine) as required.
