About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician. The Multispecialty Clinic at Short Pump Pavilion is home to a variety of specialties including Interventional Pain Management, Neurosurgery, Physical Medicine and Rehab, Rheumatology, Weight Loss, Bariatrics, Plastic Surgery, Surgery Oncology, Colorectal Surgery, Acute Care/Trauma and Wound Care. Our patients require care for a range of pain and mobility issues and some require medical and surgical management. We’re a team of 20 consisting of RNs, LPNs and CMAs and we collaborate with our physicians and patient access teams to meet the needs of our patients. Our clinic is open Monday-Friday 7:30am-5pm with some flexibility. No nights, weekends, or holidays are required. Enjoy free parking onsite!

Requirements

• Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association.
• AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.
• One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years if not a graduate of a medical assistant program.
• Previous experience using a personal computer and various software applications, including Microsoft, e-mail, etc.
• Demonstrated experience utilizing strong organizational, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

• Two (2) to three (3) years of previous experience as a Certified Medical Assistant.
• Previous experience in an academic health care environment.
• Graduation from a Medical Assisting training program from an accredited program of study.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct, age-specific care to patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician.
• Collaborate with physicians and patient access teams to meet patient needs.
• Handle, transport, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies.
• Function under the direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager, and/or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving.
