Responsibilities

  • Rooming patients: Collects vitals such as weight, height, blood pressure, pulse and pulse ox. Collects pertinent information regarding the patient’s chief complaint, family history, social history, surgical history and medication reconciliation upon arrival for a patient visit.
  • Chaperones provider during patient exams.
  • Administers vaccines and medications under ordering providers. Can compound/dilute medication with competency testing by department educator.
  • Assist with office procedures such as suture or staple removal, contraceptive implant insertion and removal, biopsies, and colposcopies.
  • Provide patients with written instructions regarding procedures, medications, or follow up instructions at the direction of the provider.
  • Performs point of care testing such as pregnancy and urinalysis tests.
  • Maintain department specific competencies related to point of care testing, equipment handling, and specialty training.
  • Completes Rx refills and normal lab results from the nurse work list.
  • Administrative tasks: completes necessary telephone communications with patients, families, pharmacies, and/or other health care facilities. Patient check in or check out, scheduling appointments, and coordination of referrals and testing.
  • Provides assistance with prescription medication refills per department protocols. Call medications into pharmacies, notify patients of refills, and document actions within the EMR per provider orders.
