About The Position

This position is located on the 13th floor of the Adult Outpatient Pavilion in downtown Richmond and provides support across Pain, Physical Medicine & Rehab, Sickle Cell & Neurology. The CMA will have the unique opportunity to work across a diverse patient population and truly broaden their skill set! The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician.

Requirements

  • Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association.
  • AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years if not a graduate of a medical assistant program.
  • No work experience required if a graduate of a medical assistant program.
  • Previous experience using a personal computer and various software applications, including Microsoft, e-mail, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing strong organizational, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) to three (3) years of previous experience as a Certified Medical Assistant.
  • Previous experience in an academic health care environment.
  • Graduation from a Medical Assisting training program from an accredited program of study.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, age-specific care to patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician.
  • Function under the direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager, and/or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving.
  • Handle, transport, access to, and/or contact with medications and related supplies.
  • Work all three shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.
