Duke Primary Care Hillsborough provides comprehensive, family-centered care for patients of all ages in one convenient location. Our team offers everything from annual physicals, screenings, and immunizations to sick visits, chronic condition management, and women’s health services. We also provide pediatric care, including well-child visits, school and sports physicals, and ongoing support for conditions like asthma, allergies, and diabetes. With on-site lab testing and X-rays, we make it easy for patients to get the care they need close to home.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program is strongly preferred.
  • High school or GED graduation is required.
  • Level II requires at least 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Level III requires at least 3 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required.
  • BLS certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Typing skills and knowledge of medical terminology (Levels II and III).
  • Ability to independently seek resources and work collaboratively with others.

Responsibilities

  • Collect medical histories and monitor vital signs.
  • Explain treatments to patients and prepare them for exams and procedures.
  • Assist medical staff and gather/prepare lab samples.
  • Conduct basic lab tests and perform EKGs.
  • Remove sutures/staples and change dressings.
  • Educate patients and families about care and document in records.
  • Dispose of contaminated supplies and process instruments.
  • Clean medical equipment and call in prescriptions.
  • Prepare and give medications as instructed by the doctor.
  • Handle prescription refills and perform other clinical tasks as assigned.
  • Greet patients and answer calls.
  • Schedule appointments and check out patients.
  • Coordinate hospital admissions and lab services.
  • Update medical records and complete forms.
  • Manage billing tasks like receiving copays and collecting balances.
  • Handle correspondence and order supplies.
  • Assist with clinic activities and participate in clinic committees.
