Durham Pediatrics at North Duke Street is a trusted, high-energy clinic providing expert care for newborns, children, teens, and adolescents. With a dedicated team of board-certified pediatricians, the clinic serves 16,000 patients annually, offering comprehensive services like well-child check-ups, immunizations, physicals, and in-clinic testing. Specializing in managing chronic conditions, behavioral health, and common illnesses, the clinic is committed to supporting children's health and development. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program is strongly preferred.
  • High school or GED graduation is required.
  • Level II requires at least 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.
  • Level III requires at least 3 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.
  • Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required.
  • BLS required.

  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to lift heavy items and assist with transporting patients.
  • Knowledge of sterile techniques and procedures.
  • Familiarity with procedures for administering patient treatments.
  • Understanding of sanitation, personal hygiene, and health and safety practices.
  • Knowledge of infection control procedures and safety measures.
  • Typing skills and knowledge of medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Collect medical histories and monitor vital signs.
  • Explain treatments to patients and prepare them for exams and procedures.
  • Assist medical staff and gather/prepare lab samples.
  • Conduct basic lab tests and perform EKGs.
  • Remove sutures/staples and change dressings.
  • Educate patients and families about care and document in records.
  • Dispose of contaminated supplies and process instruments.
  • Clean medical equipment and call in prescriptions.
  • Prepare and give medications as instructed by the doctor.
  • Handle prescription refills and perform other clinical tasks as assigned.
  • Greet patients and answer calls.
  • Schedule appointments and check out patients.
  • Coordinate hospital admissions and lab services.
  • Update medical records and complete forms.
  • Manage billing tasks like receiving copays and collecting balances.
  • Handle correspondence and order supplies.
  • Assist with clinic activities and participate in clinic committees.
