About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) position involves providing direct and indirect patient care in a clinical setting, assisting nursing and medical staff with routine examinations and treatments. The role includes responsibilities such as maintaining accurate documentation, evaluating patient outcomes, and ensuring optimal patient care under the supervision of a physician. This is a PRN (as needed) position, reporting to the Physician Practice Administrator.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant Program Certification required.
  • Current BLS for healthcare provider's certification required.
  • One year experience with electronic documentation of medical records required.
  • 2 years' experience in a physician office preferred.
  • Electronic Medical Record experience preferred.
  • Must possess superior ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service.
  • Must possess high degree of organization and be able to multi-task efficiently and effectively.
  • Basic computer knowledge required, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Performs Licensed Vocational Nurse/Certified Medical Assistant duties within the LVN/CMA scope of practice.
  • Provides direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a physician.
  • Ensures accurate and complete documentation in the EHR in a timely manner.
  • Evaluates outcomes, consults with other health team members as required and adjusts nursing care processes to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Performs assessment on patients prior to being seen by physician, including pain assessment using valid pain scale.
  • Notifies appropriate licensed personnel when patient complains of pain and assesses pain using valid pain scale.
  • Provides patients with after-care instructions and confirms understanding of those instructions.
  • Provides patient follow-up and refers patient problems to office/clinic physician immediately.
  • Informs financial/insurance clerk to speak with patients about their financial responsibility if needed.
  • Communicates with physician and team members about patient's clinical condition as needed.
  • Assists with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of a physician.
  • Answers telephone calls in a professional manner and directs calls appropriately.
  • Maintains established office/clinic policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
  • Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and assists in cost containment.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on office equipment and reports needed repairs.
  • Maintains medication and QC logs and disposes of expired medications and supplies in a timely manner.
  • Clearly communicates with staff, providers, patients and family.
  • Assists in training and mentoring Medical Assistant students as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the Medical Assistant's scope of practice.
