About The Position

The position involves providing direct and indirect patient care in an office or clinical setting. The individual will assist nursing and medical staff with routine examinations and patient treatments, and will also provide relief support to the receptionist when needed. This is a non-exempt position that reports to the Physician Practice Administrator.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Current Texas Licensed Vocational Nurse Licensure or Medical Assistant Program Certification required.
  • Current BLS for healthcare provider's certification required.
  • One year experience with electronic documentation of medical records required.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years' experience in a physician office preferred.
  • Electronic Medical Record experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs Licensed Vocational Nurse/Certified Medical Assistant duties within the LVN/CMA scope of practice.
  • Provides direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a physician.
  • Ensures accurate and complete documentation in the EHR in a timely manner.
  • Evaluates outcomes, consults with other health team members as required and adjusts nursing care processes to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Performs assessment on patients prior to being seen by physician, including pain assessment using valid pain scale.
  • Notifies appropriate licensed personnel when patient complains of pain, assesses pain using valid pain scale.
  • Provides patients with after-care instructions and confirms understanding of those instructions.
  • Provides patient follow-up, refers patient problems to office/clinic physician immediately.
  • Informs financial/insurance clerk to speak with patients about their financial responsibility if the need arises.
  • Communicates with physician and team members about patient's clinical condition on an as needed basis.
  • Assists with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of a physician.
  • Answers telephone calls in a professional manner, directs calls appropriately, and schedules patient appointments.
  • Maintains established office/clinic policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
  • Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and assists in cost containment through appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on office equipment and reports needed repairs of equipment to appropriate departments.
  • Maintains medication and QC logs, removes and properly disposes of expired medications and supplies in a timely manner.
  • Clearly communicates with staff, providers, patients and family.
  • Assists in training and mentoring Medical Assistant students as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the Medical Assistant's scope of practice.
