The Medical Assistant with Duke Cardiology of Raleigh functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in providing direct patient care. The Medical Assistant performs routine administrative and patient care supportive duties in a Health System medical practice that assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensure the clinic runs smoothly.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES strongly preferred.
  • High school or GED graduation required.
  • Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required.
  • BLS required.
  • Level I -- No experience required.
  • Level II -- 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified in a clinical setting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine administrative duties including medical records management, answering and handling telephone calls, greeting patients, scheduling appointments, and handling correspondence.
  • Monitor and respond to medical assistant work-ques and address medical assistant in-basket pool.
  • Room patients and document vital signs, health maintenance history, EKGs, and cardiac monitor application.
  • Provide education with appropriate documentation and future testing instructions.
  • Conduct POC testing for anticoagulation monitoring and other clinical duties as assigned.
  • Stock and clean patient areas as assigned and maintain required training.
  • Transport patients via wheelchair to hospital admission or ER as directed.
  • Assist in imaging area or other areas when necessary.
  • Prepare the clinic daily and perform pre-visit work.
  • Accept additional duties related to committees and/or clinic projects.
