About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for performing or assisting with a variety of tasks in a clinical setting including patient preparation, physical and drug screen collection, sterile techniques, instrument care, medications and injections procedures. The role involves communication with patients, physician offices, and testing facilities.

Requirements

• Certification required.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Prior health care experience and/or training is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Taking medical histories and recording vital signs.
• Explaining treatment procedures to patients.
• Preparing patients for examination and assisting the physician during the examination.
• Performing routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians and other health practitioners running smoothly.
• Instructing patients about medications and preparing and administering medications as directed by a physician.
• Authorizing drug refills as directed and telephoning prescriptions to a pharmacy.
• Preparing exam rooms for patient visits and measuring vital signs.
• Documenting current medications and prescriptions that need to be renewed.
• Instructing patients on how to prepare for the physician.
• Anticipating and setting up special equipment and/or supplies needed for the visit.
• Alerting the physician when the patient is ready and communicating pertinent clinical information.
• Assisting patients through the check-out process when the visit is complete.
• Cleaning and preparing the room for the next patient.
• Responding to needs to expedite visits and keep on schedule.
• Assisting the physician with patient care during the visit.
• Adhering to hand hygiene and standard precaution guidelines.
• Providing care appropriate to the age group of patients in practice setting and documenting data per practice protocols.
