About The Position

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employs nearly 2,300 team members operating nine institutions statewide, which house approximately 5,800 inmates. The department's focus includes inmate programming and education, physical and behavioral health care, re-entry services, and community programs, and is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA). Requirements

  • Master's degree in Social Work and three years Master Social Worker experience, including supervisory experience.
  • Certification as a Master Social Worker by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services is required in accordance with Neb. Rev. Stat. § 38-2128.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license.
  • Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test.
  • Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and oversees the Social Work Department by formulating, managing, and evaluating programs, policies, and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Provides clinical supervision and direction to professional and support staff, ensuring high standards in assessments, treatment planning, documentation, and discharge coordination.
  • Delivers individual and group counseling to support client rehabilitation and transitions.
  • Serves as an integral member of the interdisciplinary treatment team, contributing psychosocial expertise to treatment plans and monitoring client progress.
  • Coordinates complex discharge plans, advocates for client needs through community referrals and agency partnerships, and delivers education and training to staff and the public.
  • Supervises practicum students, participates in facility committees, and conducts research to enhance therapeutic outcomes and departmental effectiveness.
