The Lead Technician works under the direction of the SPD manager and/or SPD Supervisor. They are responsible for the daily operations and workflow of their shift. They perform duties independently, work proficiently without supervision and serve as a resource for all aspects of sterilization processing of surgical instrumentation. They coordinate the decontamination, sterilization, inspection and assembly of instruments, materials and equipment necessary for support of the surgical services and other depts. They perform in the role as well as monitor others within the department, and are responsible for assuring work completion and standard/best practice compliance. They operate and troubleshoot equipment specific to Sterile Processing. They assist in the training and competency assessment of staff. The Lead Technician serves as the Customer Service Specialist with OR staff, surgeons and other departments they serve to resolve issues and enhance service. They review the daily OR schedule to ensure instrument availability, coordinate vendor instrumentation and plan needed turnovers to complete the schedule without delay. The Lead Technician monitors quality assurance, documentation, and policy and procedure adherence.
