About The Position

The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation. The Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) supports the Department by acquiring, distributing, installing and maintaining Local Area Networks, personal computers, mainframe computers, software, and data communications networks. ITSD also plans and coordinates the implementation of advanced technology. The selected candidate will: -Leads a team who performs SQL Server database administration functions, including maintenance of multiple environments (development, testing and production), patching, troubleshooting, SSIS & SSRS deployments and security management. -Leads a team who performs database administration duties, including installations, patching, backup and recovery management, schema management, startup and shutdown. -Supervises a team who designs and implement redundant systems, policies and procedures for database recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection, maximum availability and integrity of data assets by assigning and reviewing work of subordinates. -Monitor and analyze data platforms to ensure database is available, secure, healthy, efficient and recoverable as per expectations. -Build and manage HA & DR architectures like Clustering, Replication and Always on. -Implement and manage the physical databases of mission critical systems capacity to determine future storage needs. -Collaborate with application owners to develop a seamless process to migrate their schema and data to data platform. -Partner with development and quality assurance teams to deliver robust, quality on-time solutions. -Directs, provides guidance and assists subordinates in testing, developing and troubleshooting database applications. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: In compliance with Federal Law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire. Requirements

• Professional/Vendor Certification(s) in database administration that is required for the position to be filled.
• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, and two years of satisfactory fulltime (not classroom based) experience in database administration. Experience must include database design, configuration, installation, troubleshooting, integration, performance monitoring, maintenance, enhancement, and security management
• A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory full-time (not classroom based) information technology experience (IT) of which at least two years must have been database administration experience as described in "1" above
• A satisfactory equivalent of education and/or experience equivalent to “1” or “2” above.
• Undergraduate education may be substituted for experience on the basis that 30 undergraduate semester credits from an accredited college or university is equivalent to 6 months of information technology experience, but may not be substituted for the required database administration experience.
• A masters degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of database administration experience.
• However, all candidates must have at least one year of satisfactory full-time (not classroom based) database administration experience as described in "1" above.
