This is highly technical and professional work that includes enforcing the community's flood damage prevention ordinance, maintaining community flood maps, plans, and polices, and any of the activities related to the administration of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Responsible for conducting Floodplain plan review, inspections, and audits from project inception through completion for compliance with the flood provisions of the Florida Building Code and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Floodplain regulations. The Floodplain Manager also serves as the primary point of contact with the State of Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) and FEMA. Work is performed with considerable independence within the scope of professional methods and procedures and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of results attained.
