About The Position

With locations in Lancaster and Lebanon, North Pointe Surgery Center offers: Ambulatory orthopedic surgical services Seven fully equipped operating rooms Pre and post-operative rooms Pain management services Podiatry Services Outpatient Joint Replacements (Lebanon location) Job Summary: The First Assistant functions as a first assistant during operative and other invasive procedures in accordance with credentials, privileges, experience, education and competency verification.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited surgical technologist program.
  • One of the following certifications is required: Active Certified surgical assistant (CSA) Active Certified surgical first assistant (CSFA) Active Surgical assistant, certified, (SA-C)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Five (5) years perioperative services experience.
  • Completion of the organization's credentialing process.
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft® Word).

Responsibilities

  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
  • Review patient health data relevant to the operative or invasive procedure (e.g., history and physical).
  • Function as a first assistant during operative and other invasive procedures by providing exposure through correct use of instruments, retractors, suction, and sponging techniques as directed by the surgeon;
  • handling and dissecting tissues as directed by the surgeon;
  • clamping blood vessels, coagulating bleeding points, and ligating vessels as directed by the surgeon;
  • placing drains as directed by the surgeon; and
  • suturing muscle, fascia, subcutaneous, and skin as directed by the surgeon.
  • Serve as a resource to peers, colleagues, and others in relation to first assistant activities.
  • Maintain regulatory, credentialing, and privileging requirements necessary for practice as a first assistant.
  • Participate in ongoing educational and competency verification activities applicable to first assistant activities.
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
  • Comply with organizational policies, regulatory and accreditation standards, and professional guidelines.
