About The Position

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Fire & Explosion Investigator to join our Fire Origin & Cause Practice Group. This role involves conducting comprehensive investigations into fire and explosion incidents, determining origin and cause, and preparing detailed reports for clients. The ideal candidate will be analytical, detail-oriented, and certified in fire investigation.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of field experience in fire investigation or a related discipline, with strong understanding of fire and explosion investigation principles.
  • Certification required: NAFI-CFEI or NFPA 1033 equivalent; IAAI-CFI preferred and must be obtained within 15 months of employment.
  • Eligible to obtain local and/or regional Private Investigator licensing in applicable jurisdictions.
  • Degree in Fire Science, Forensic Science, or a related field from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent report writing abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and project management skills.
  • Detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and capable of working independently with effective time management.
  • Ability to travel locally, nationally, and internationally as required for fieldwork and client meetings.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and professional integrity.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Fire Science, Forensic Science, or a related field from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • IAAI-CFI preferred and must be obtained within 15 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough on-site investigations of fire and explosion scenes to determine origin and cause.
  • Collect and analyze physical evidence, interview witnesses, and perform detailed scene analysis.
  • Interface with clients, insurance adjusters, attorneys, public authorities, contractors, and vendors.
  • Serve as a liaison between clients and attorneys, ensuring clear communication and coordination.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and technically sound investigative reports.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and case files throughout the investigation process.
  • Perform field inspections and necessary site visits, traveling as needed for fieldwork and client meetings locally, nationally and internationally.
  • Promote and market the utilization of J.S. Held services within the insurance industry and assigned territory.
  • Research and analyze public records, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of laws related to privacy and record availability.
  • Ensure all investigations are conducted ethically and in compliance with legal standards.
  • Ability to present to clients and judicial jurisdictions as an expert witness.
