About The Position

The EP Lab Technician-Certified will function as an integral part of the Cardiac Cath Lab team by participating, implementing, and assisting in the care of patients in the Electrophysiology Laboratory. Demonstrates technical proficiency during all Electrophysiology procedures while functioning in both roles of Electrophysiology Cardiovascular Scrub Technician and Electrophysiology Recorder. As the Recorder, he/she maintains good communication with the patient care team to ensure proper equipment set up, accurate monitoring, and quality data collection.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or G.E.D.
  • Two (2) years full-time Invasive Cardiovascular Technology experience or an Associate Degree or equivalent college hours (62 semester hours) in health, science, natural science, nursing, engineering, or any primary science.
  • Graduate of an accredited program in Invasive Cardiovascular Technology or a non-programmatically accredited program with a minimum of one (1) year of specialty training and 800 clinical hours.
  • Completion of initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit.
  • Current certification as RCIS, RCES, ARRT, RRT, or NREMT-Paramedic EMT.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year fulltime or fulltime equivalent in Invasive Cardiovascular Technology preferred.
  • Baccalaureate in health, science, natural science or nursing, engineering or any primary science AND six (6) months of fulltime or fulltime equivalent in Invasive Cardiovascular Technology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate advance technical proficiency for all Electrophysiology procedures while functioning in Cardiovascular Scrub Technician and Electrophysiology Recorder.
  • Perform diagnostic Electrophysiology studies, interventional electrophysiology, ablation, permanent pacemaker, implantable cardiac defibrillator, biventricular pacemaker and defibrillator, laser lead extraction, and vascular closure devices.
  • Take 'Call' on a rotating basis as assigned.
  • Identify cardiac structures and advanced anatomy of all heart chambers and coronary vasculature.
  • Assist the physician in obtaining or entering data into the Electrophysiology Physiologic Monitoring System(s) for accurate assessment.
  • Practice radiation safety and observe all principles to ALARA.
  • Accurately report life-threatening arrhythmias and demonstrate proficiency in the assessment of cardiac function.
  • Ensure that angiographic and procedural data is properly archived for long-term storage.
  • Assist and train new staff and existing staff members in the scrub/recorder arena.
