About The Position

This is a 24 hour per week, hybrid position, that also requires travel within Orange County for offsite groups. You must have reliable transportation to be considered for this position. The Certified Diabetes Educator is responsible for autonomous clinical case management and education with regards to various aspects of diabetes care for patient/families with type 1 and type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes. Education takes place in the setting of return visits or group classes in the outpatient clinic, and in the hospital for newly diagnosed patients, and established patients with special needs. The Certified Diabetes Educator contributes to the program and curriculum development. This position is part of CHOC's Prevention of Obesity and Diabetes Through Education and Resources Program, which focuses on providing multi-generational group teachings to patients and families referred to the program. The ideal candidate will have Pediatrics diabetes education experience, have the ability to lift up to 25lbs, have strong computer skills, and be Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Requirements

  • Minimum one (1) year of Educator experience.
  • Previous experience with case management.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) or Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition or equivalent and Registered Dietitian (RD) with Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE).
  • Ability to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal relationship and collaboration skills.
  • Strong analytical and organization skills; excellent critical thinking, judgment, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to set goals and judge results in accordance with the highest standards; ability to lead groups or projects.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English effectively at a level appropriate for the safe and effective performance of the job.
  • Ability to use computer and software necessary to the position e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Registered Dietician or Registered Nurse -CA (RN)
  • Certified Diabetes Educator
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) AND/OR Pediatric Emergency Assessment Recognition & Stability (PEARS) required within 90 days upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of Certified Diabetes Educator with pediatric experience.
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Nutrition, or healthcare related field.
  • CGM Sensor and Pump training and management.
  • Bilingual in English/ Spanish.
  • Pediatrics diabetes education experience
  • ability to lift up to 25lbs
