About The Position

The Certified Dermatology Technician at Arizona Center for Cancer Care (AZCCC) supports providers in delivering high-quality dermatologic care across medical and procedural services. This role is focused on assisting with skin-related evaluations, procedures, and patient education while helping maintain an efficient clinical flow. The Dermatology Technician plays a key role in the patient experience and must demonstrate a professional, attentive, and patient-centered approach at all times.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of six (6) months (approximately 1,000 hours) of hands-on experience in a dermatology setting.
  • Completion of the Association of Certified Dermatology Techs (ACDT) program and required assessments, or an equivalent accredited dermatology certification program.
  • Valid CPR certification required.
  • Certified Dermatology Technician (CDT) credential required
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, crawl and twist as needed
  • Must be able to see, hear, type, and speak
  • Must be able to reach and pull
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel between locations.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in dermatology or a specialty clinical setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains and documents dermatology-focused patient history, including skin concerns, medications, and relevant clinical information.
  • Prepares patients for skin examinations and dermatologic procedures, ensuring comfort and readiness.
  • Assists providers during procedures such as biopsies, excisions, cryotherapy, and lesion treatments.
  • Performs wound care, dressing changes, and suture removal following dermatologic procedures.
  • Handles and prepares tissue specimens, ensuring accurate labeling and timely processing.
  • Takes and uploads clinical photographs to support diagnosis and treatment tracking.
  • Documents patient interactions and clinical details accurately within the electronic medical record.
  • Prepares and turns over exam and procedure rooms, ensuring all instruments and supplies are ready for use.
  • Maintains proper sterilization of instruments and follows infection control standards.
  • Manages dermatology-specific supplies, including biopsy kits, surgical instruments, and clinical products; restocks and monitors expiration dates.
  • Processes and sends orders for labs, pathology, imaging, referrals, and medications as directed.
  • Coordinates specimen pick-up and completes requisitions in alignment with patient insurance requirements.
  • Supports prior authorizations, referral coordination, and follow-up scheduling as needed.
  • Assists with scheduling needs for urgent or time-sensitive orders to support continuity of care.
  • Monitors biohazard and sharps disposal in accordance with OSHA standards.
  • Responds to clinical phone calls and patient inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Supports general clinic workflow, including communication with front office staff and providers to maintain efficient patient flow.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of patient and clinical information.
  • Works assigned shifts and supports coverage across clinic locations as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by providers and practice leadership.
