About The Position

The position involves assigning ICD and CPT/Surgery codes and abstracting to outpatient medical record types including ED, Clinic, Urgent Care, and Ancillary from a full-time remote location in accordance with the department’s established accuracy and productivity requirements. The job requires maintaining confidentiality, adhering to hospital policies, and demonstrating ethical business practices. Responsibilities include reviewing medical records, coding outpatient record types daily, monitoring the uncoded DNB work queue, and maintaining satisfactory coding performance. The role also involves responding to coding requests, participating in educational programs, and performing other duties as required by management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; or Associate's degree from a two-year college or technical school.
  • 1-3 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-2 years’ experience coding in an acute care hospital setting preferred.
  • Certification as CCA, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, CPC-H, RHIT, or RHIA.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in outpatient coding.
  • Continuing education hours to maintain certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assign ICD and CPT codes to outpatient medical records.
  • Code records in a timely manner.
  • Monitor the uncoded DNB work queue.
  • Maintain satisfactory coding performance in accordance with accuracy targets.
  • Abstract data into patient abstract fields.
  • Respond to coding requests from internal and external customers.
  • Request diagnosis from physician’s office as needed.
  • Participate in educational programs and staff meetings.
  • Perform other duties as required by Manager and/or Director.
