  • Perform ICD-10-CM/PCS coding to maintain an accurate database and ensure a minimum accuracy rate of 95%.
  • Apply knowledge of MS DRG and APR DRG assignment, Official Coding guidelines, and Comorbidity/complication coding.
  • Effectively communicate with Physicians to clarify diagnoses for accurate DRGs and severity of illness.
  • Code using either 3M 360 encoder or ICD-10-CM/ICD-10 PCS codebook.
  • Mentor and train junior coders.
  • Perform audits as assigned by the coding manager.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of the impact of coding decisions on the revenue cycle and assist in appealing payer denials.
  • Respond to business office questions regarding diagnoses and procedures in a timely manner.
  • Attend and participate in required hospital education programs to maintain and enhance coding skills.
  • Maintain certified coding credentials in accordance with requirements.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in coding.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • RHIT or RHIA certification required.
  • Training in medical terminology, ICD-10-CM, CPT procedure, and E/M coding.
  • Ability to decipher operative reports, medical orders, and various medical records for appropriate code selection.
