About The Position

The Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT) is proficient in providing hemodialysis therapies to patients in with chronic renal failure.  The CHT works under the delegation supervision of the Registered Nurse or Nephrology Provider. The CHT must possess the physical capabilities to successfully perform the job as stated in the physical requirements.   Adherence to all policies and procedures is required. We will also accept a Licensed Practical Nurse that is wanting to learn Dialysis and willing to train for the role.

Requirements

  • Current National Recognized Nephrology Certification or Licensed Practical Nurse
  • Current and unencumbered Dialysis Technician Certification
  • CPR Certification
  • Minimum of 12 months hemodialysis experience in an acute or chronic dialysis setting

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates applicable knowledge of policies and procedures related to the Certified Hemodialysis   Technician.
  • Demonstrates ability to work with any patient or staff, regardless of race, gender, disease process, lifestyle, religious or cultural beliefs, or treatment.
  • Initiates, monitors, and discontinues dialysis treatments according to established procedures.  As directed by the dialysis RN assesses patients’ pre/post treatment and reports problems to the dialysis RN.
  • Follows priorities of care, both emergent and non-emergent defined by the Dialysis RN and/or physician.
  • Develops and assimilates theoretical and technical knowledge with observations, assessment, and communication skills to detect dialysis and non-dialysis related problems.
  • Dialyze isolation patients utilizing isolation precautions and prescribed procedure.
  • Performs hemodialysis access care according to established procedures.
  • Administers and documents medications as authorized by a physician and as further authorized or limited by the State Board of Nursing.
  • Reports any significant information or change in patient condition to dialysis RN.
  • Documents clearly, completely, and accurately all pertinent information on patient’s manual or electronic record.
  • Participates in the formulation, update, and revision of nursing care plans
  • Obtains blood samples and other specimens as ordered.
  • May monitor blood products, IV meds after started by an RN.  Will clamp off and alert the RN when infusion complete.
  • Disinfect, clean dialysis equipment.
  • Store dialysis equipment and leave patient area neat and clean.
