About The Position

Job Summary: Work in partnership with students, parents, coaches, and healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive care of student-athletes of local school district. Focus on injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, emergency and immediate care, as well as treatment, rehabilitation, and support for the overall health and well-being of individuals involved in school athletic programs. Essential Functions: Consistently use an outward mindset and put forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives. Emphasizes five core competencies: prevention of injuries, evaluation and diagnosis, immediate care and first response, rehabilitation and recovery, and healthcare operations management. Works closely with a licensed physician, collaborating with students, parents, coaches, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver comprehensive, high-quality care. Oversees key responsibilities such as patient triage, injury assessments, medical history collection, brace and equipment fitting, and the development and implementation of rehabilitation and injury prevention plans. Maintains detailed and accurate records using our Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, while coordinating patient self-care strategies, designing home exercise programs, and providing educational resources to the community. Delivers expert care across the spectrum of injury prevention, evaluation, emergency response, rehabilitation, and medical documentation. Monitors patient progress, track outcomes, and report insights to the rehabilitation manager. Leads efforts in community education related to athletic training, wellness initiatives, and injury prevention strategies. Collaborates with healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care coordination. Attends and contributes to community and departmental meetings to advance program goals. Communicates effectively with athletic director and the rehab manager to organize schedules, ensure availability, and provide event coverage. Supports the growth and development of the sports medicine program through innovative initiatives and community engagement. Offers on-site medical coverage for high school athletic events, serving as a trusted resource for athletes and coaches. Participates in community wellness events and contribute to sports performance training programs. Serves as the primary point of contact for high school athletic training needs, facilitating patient appointments and consultations as required.

Requirements

  • Be licensed through the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs as an Athletic Trainer and be certified by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC)
  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Must be sympathetic to patients who may be in pain or discomfort
  • Must make informed clinical decisions that could affect patient's health
  • Must accurately record patient's progress and ensure they are receiving the appropriate treatments
  • Must communicate well with patients, physicians, coaches, parents and others
  • Must understand that patients are going through a lot physically, mentally, and emotionally
  • Active Listening Skills - Must be able to filter out distractions and hear what the patient may not be saying
  • Communication Skills - Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Knowledge of Athletic Conference rules and regulations (as appropriate)- Must be adherent to MHSAA rules and regulations that pertain to the athletic activities where athletic trainer is needed
