In this role, you will supervise engineering projects to deliver satellite communications system equipment and services for airline connectivity, along with providing technical support.

Requirements

  • 8+ years overall engineering experience with minimum 4 years in project or system engineering.
  • Experience with commercial aviation hardware and software.
  • Exposure to FAA/EASA STC projects.
  • Understanding of FAA ACO, ODA, DER, DAR processes and procedures.
  • Experience with creating strong relationships and collaborating with internal and external customers.
  • Proficient in handling system requirements and communicating with interested parties.
  • Knowledge of RTCA DO-160/178 standards.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals and schematics including engineering items supporting SATCOM installation.
  • Experience with change control and document management processes.
  • Ability to perform project, resource planning and handle technical risks.
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering field or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in an engineering field.
  • Ability to oversee all engineering elements in a project such as mechanical, electrical, software, etc.
  • Strong background in IP networking, WiFi systems, and traffic management.
  • Experience with aircraft systems, avionics, and wiring.
  • Experience with system integration and test.
  • Experience with VSAT or mobile satcom technologies.
  • Familiarity with 14 CFR Part 25/26/145 regulations.
  • Familiarity with RTCA-DO-160/178.
  • Familiarity with ARINC 429/600/791.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring customer technical requirements are met for the integration of satellite communication equipment onto aircraft platforms.
  • Ensuring the integration hardware and software are installable and supportable.
  • Facilitating technical communication between internal teams, suppliers, and customers.
  • Coordinating successful on-aircraft testing and prototype installations.
  • Collaborating with the customer and the engineering integrator to build, implement, and maintain an in-flight connectivity installation.
  • Serving as the main focal point for retrofit technical needs and requirements for the Viasat system.
  • Overseeing and supporting Viasat engineering teams from program kickoff to design, certification, and prototype installation.
  • Developing and reviewing engineering drawings, engineering orders, substantiation documents, and other user documentation needed for aircraft certification and installation.
  • Leading and influencing a multi-functional team of engineers, software developers, operations, logistics, and field support as part of the retrofit program.
  • Working directly with the customer, the FAA/ODA, and the engineering integrator to design, implement, and maintain an STC approved in-flight connectivity installation.
  • Supporting technical communication and coordination with airline customers, IFEC partners, and the OEM.
  • Leading the technical component of successful Prototype Installations.
