About The Position

The Certified Surgical First Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting surgeons during operative and invasive procedures. This position involves assisting in various surgical tasks under the supervision of the surgeon, ensuring patient safety and optimal surgical outcomes. The role also includes preoperative and postoperative responsibilities to enhance patient care.

Requirements

• Two years of experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist required.
• Experience as a Surgical First Assistant preferred.
• Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA), Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA), or equivalent certification required.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required.
• Current CPR training required.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduate from an accredited surgical technologist program required.
• Bachelor's degree in a related medical science field preferred.

Nice To Haves

• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Function as a first assistant during operative and invasive procedures under the direction of the surgeon.
• Aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions.
• Perform preoperative and postoperative duties to facilitate proper patient care.
• Demonstrate knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology, and surgical techniques/instrumentation.
• Handle tissue, provide instruments, control blood loss, and perform suturing during surgery.
• Anticipate and react calmly to emergency situations.
• Recognize surgical hazards and initiate corrective actions.
• Follow written protocols and communicate effectively with the surgical team.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and medical staff.
