The Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists in preparing and distributing medication, and maintaining patient records. The Pharmacy Technician works only under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist. The Pharmacy Technician does not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a Registered Pharmacist.

  • Answers telephone, receiving and relaying messages accurately and as needed.
  • Places, receives and stocks orders with wholesaler and other vendors as required.
  • Maintains medication and supply inventories.
  • Organizes expired or overstocked and recalled medications for return to appropriate vendors.
  • Maintains a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with all rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Prepare reports by collecting and summarizing data.
  • Properly receive, interpret, and fill written and verbal prescription orders.
  • Able to accept forms of payment and perform all duties involving the point of sale system.
  • Process and trouble shoot various prescription insurance plans.
  • Perform math skills such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills with other healthcare professionals and patients, verbal and written.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as assigned.
  • Maintain and update patient profiles routinely.
  • Provides prompt, courteous services to all internal and external customers. Prioritizes and addresses customer needs and demands in a professional manner, providing follow-up and developing cooperative relationships.
  • Performs other duties and assignments as assigned and maintains the department in a neat, clean and orderly manner.
  • Performs duties with an awareness of patient's age, growth, development, cultural and spiritual differences.
  • Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve customer services, work processes and financial performance. Assists in design and implementation of quality improvement initiatives on departmental and organizational levels.
  • Assists team members in completion of task and assignments to ensure continuity of service. Orient new co-workers and actively support team development.
  • Follows North Oaks Health System's compliance programs and all Federal and State regulatory guidelines.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Current and valid certification with the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy.
  • Retail Pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Typing skills and excellent math skills are essential.
