About The Position

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) performs occupational therapy procedures and related tasks that have been selected and delegated only by a supervising occupational therapist (OT). The COTA uses their knowledge and skills to help the occupational therapist provide selected interventions as described in the patient’s plan of care. The COTA uses their clinical problem solving skills to ensure patient/client safety and comfort, as well as completion of interventions selected to achieve the patient’s desired outcomes and goals. Our COTA’s demonstrate effective communication and strong interpersonal skills to motivate patients and provide compassionate care. Department: Occupational Therapy Hours: Part-Time, 20 hours a week required

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree (Required)
  • BLS or CPR certification (within 90 days of hire) - Sarah Bush Lincoln
  • Licensed Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to the AOTA code of ethics.
  • Appropriately carries out treatment as directed by the supervising occupational therapist.
  • Appropriately modifies treatment in response to patient progress and keeps the OT informed of changes in status and overall progress.
  • Assists other facility staff members as needed to provide care and create a clean, orderly and effective environment for rehabilitation and occupational therapy.
  • Document patient progress according to approved medical documentation and facility documentation procedures to best describe client progress toward established goals.
  • Functions independently within the scope of the OTA Practice Act.
  • Maintain patient records, ensuring that Certifications and Authorizations are in compliance with third party payer requirements.
  • Maintains and consistently demonstrates competency in all areas of assigned client care needs and seeks out additional information, in-service or other educational opportunities to remain competent and current in practice.
  • Provides a variety of treatment approaches utilizing appropriate manual techniques and available equipment and modalities.
  • Provides individualized patient and caregiver education
