The Intravenous Admixture Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists in preparing and distributing medication, and maintaining patient records. The Pharmacy Technician works only under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist. The Pharmacy Technician does not perform duties that can legally be performed only be a Registered Pharmacist. Current and valid certification with the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy.AGE SPECIFIC CONSIDERATIONSIs involved in providing patient care for people of the following age groups:Neonates (Birth - 28 days)Peds (28 days - 8 years)Adolescents (9 - 17 years)Adults (18 - 60 years)Geriatrics (60 years and older)

  • Prepares sterile products for verification by pharmacist prior to dispensing.
  • Makes daily rounds to patient care areas to assess intravenous admixture usage.
  • Assists in training and orientation of new employees involved with IV sterile compounding.
  • Maintains temperature logs in IV room and Chemotherapy room
  • Cleans laminar flow hood daily and as required by hospital policy.
  • Maintains quality assurance for IV Room as required by USP 797.
  • Inspects medication storage areas monthly as assigned.
  • Maintains inventory of intravenous admixture supplies and medications.
  • Organizes expired or overstocked medications for return to appropriate vendors.
  • Generates intravenous admixture labels and delivers IV batch.
  • Credits, restocks and disposes of sterile products as needed.
  • Performs other duties and assignments as assigned and maintains the department in a neat, clean and orderly manner.

  • Provides prompt, courteous services to all internal and external customers. Prioritizes and addresses customer needs and demands in a professional manner, providing follow-up and developing cooperative relationships.
  • Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve customer services, work processes and financial performance. Assists in design and implementation of quality improvement initiatives on departmental and organizational levels.
  • Assists team members in completion of task and assignments to ensure continuity of service. Orient new co-workers and actively support team development.
  • Follows North Oaks Health System's compliance programs and all Federal and State regulatory guidelines.
  • High school diploma.
  • Typing skills and excellent math skills are essential.
  • Current and valid certification with the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy.
